When is Election Day?: What to Know – What Reddit is Saying
Alright, folks, Election Day 2025 is breathing down our necks. Another year, another round of politicians promising the moon and delivering… well, you know. The usual.
The Illusion of Choice
So, what's on the menu this year? In Central Ohio, we're apparently supposed to get excited about the Franklin County ADAMH levy, a $1.9 billion bond package for Columbus, and the Columbus Zoo levy. Seriously? Are we just ATMs for these pet projects now? And don't even get me started on the "range of municipal races." It's all the same song and dance.
Six candidates for the Columbus school board, battling it out for three seats. No incumbents even in the race. Fresh blood? Or just fresh faces ready to play the same old games?
And then there's the Columbus City Council District 7 race – two Democrats duking it out. An assistant city attorney versus a "public-interest attorney." Give me a break. It's like choosing between slightly different shades of beige.
Speaking of choices, or lack thereof, the deadline to request an absentee ballot? Gone. Missed it. Offcourse. Early in-person voting? Basically over. They make it so damn hard to actually participate, you almost wonder if it's by design. Almost.
I saw some clown on TV the other day saying that voting is a "sacred duty." Yeah, right. It feels more like a civic obligation enforced by guilt and the vague promise that this time things will be different.
The Theater of Democracy
Polls open at 6:30 a.m. in Ohio, close at 7:30 p.m. Seems straightforward, right? Except, every year, there's some kind of snafu. Machines break down, lines are hours long, some yahoo shows up trying to intimidate voters... it's always something.

And the ID requirements? Ohio driver's license, state ID, passport, military ID… the list goes on. Basically, you need to prove you exist to exercise your "sacred duty." But hey, at least you can't register on Election Day in New York. Small victories, I guess.
New York polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. So if you work a normal job you can get there... maybe. When is Election Day 2025? What you need to know in NY
All this crap is exhausting.
The Existential Dread of Civic Engagement
I swear, every election cycle, I ask myself the same damn question: What's the point? Does any of this actually matter? Do these people actually listen to us, or are we just props in their little political theater?
Then again, maybe I'm the crazy one here. Maybe I'm just too cynical. Maybe I should just shut up and vote like a good little citizen.
But honestly, what's the alternative? Letting the other side win? As if they're any better.
It's All Rigged, Anyway
